Every year, Afford continues to add and extend supports for people with disability thanks to the generosity of everyday people.
Bequests are when individuals include gifts to Afford as part of their Will.
As one of Afford’s inner-city sites, green space at Belmore Day Program is limited.
Thanks to a personal gift from an Afford supporter, the team at Belmore have created a natural haven for clients to enjoy.
The gift directly supports the wellbeing of individuals who attend the site. Clients can meditate or chill out in the lush garden space. Friends can catch up for social get-togethers.
One of the Belmore clients, Kirk, helped with the garden project. He loves gardening and was very keen to showcase his ‘green thumb’ skills to his friends at the site.
“I like the new garden. I will make sure that I water the plants and look after it,” said Kirk.
The bequest funding has given Belmore an engaging outdoor space. Clients and staff gather together to sizzle sausages for lunch during the warmer months. Some clients read a book or do a puzzle on the veranda.
Affectionately known by clients as ‘Belmore Gardens’ the new space is brimming with colourful, fragrant flowers and shrubs. It’s a lovely place to sit back and unwind.
The introduction of ‘Belmore Gardens’ gives everyone at the site more opportunity to take advantage of the serene and natural space on their own or with friends.
Leaving a gift in a Will to Afford means that you leave a legacy of bettering the lives of people with disability.
