Angela is Ready to Live Life Her Way
When you meet Angela, you wouldn’t think that just three weeks ago she lived most of her life socially isolated from the rest of the world.
Let Your Confidence Shine
Today Angela displays self-confidence, a remarkable willingness to learn and teach others, and a drive to live her best life!
Explore Your Interests
At Afford’s Redlands Day Program, Angela receives the services she needs to participate in new life experiences, develop her independent living skills, and engage in social connections under the NDIS.
In these extraordinary times, when individuals just like Angela need support more than ever, Afford is continuing to deliver meaningful care and support to people living with disability in local communities right across Queensland.
Getting the Right Disability Supports are More Important Than Ever
For Angela, these unprecedented world events make access to life-changing services even more important. She initially joined Afford for two days a week to become more independent. She receives one-to-one support to get involved in programs and activities that appeal to her interests and suit her needs.
With individualised support, her skills have progressed quickly. Angela has learned how to use various cooking utensils and pans in the kitchen. She now understands how to research recipes online and in books to cook for herself. With support staff, Angela goes to the supermarket and is more familiar with organising herself for a shop with a list of ingredients to buy. With each visit, she is more confident to budget for herself and handle her own money.
In less than a month, Angela’s resilience and confidence in her abilities has blossomed. She now takes the lead in the kitchen to teach others.
“She helps others in the kitchen and shows them what to do. Angela’s progress in such a short time is amazing! She has really flourished with one-to-one support and has already achieved one of her personal goals of cooking spaghetti Bolognese for her dad,” said Meagan Bartczak, Team Leader at Afford Redlands Day Program.
Get Support If and When You Need It
While at Day Program, Angela feels comfortable interacting with others who share similar life experiences. She now attends five days a week and has made many friends. She has even won the affection of a fellow participant, Scott, who she plans to get to know better as time goes on.
From a life that had little social interaction or desire to take on new challenges, Angela has stepped up to take charge of her life. Under the NDIS she is supported by Afford if and when she needs it, to live the life she has always wanted.
