When Monique joined Ipswich SLES, she had recently graduated high school and harboured many concerns about her future. However Monique has transformed into a vibrant and confident trainee in just six months and landed her first job at Taco Bell. She shines with confidence and has demonstrated an unwavering motivation to achieve her dreams.

With Afford’s School Leaver Employment Supports, you will develop a personalised plan in partnership with your vocational trainer to help you find success.

“Monique has shown a huge leap in confidence, ability and personal growth since landing her first job at Taco Bell this past month. We are all so excited for this new chapter in her life and cannot wait to hear about all the new real-world experiences she encounters,” said SLES Vocational Trainer, Rose Haley.

After graduating high school last year, Monique joined SLES in April. Monique wanted to work on her self-esteem as she feared that her quiet and reserved personality might be a barrier to gaining employment. By getting involved in group activities and building her work-ready skills, Monique’s confidence soared and she quickly felt ready to start applying for jobs and volunteering opportunities.

“Monique had had her first job interview a couple of months before this one. Although she was unsuccessful, Monique took it in her stride and was only more motivated to polish her interview skills, learn from her experience and try again,” continued Rose.

When Monique attended the Taco Bell Food Champion job interview, she felt cool, calm and collected. The interview went well and the next day, she got the phone call welcoming her to the team.

Monique thanked Rose and said, “Coming to SLES has helped me learn many new skills they do not teach you at school. Rose has pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me build confidence.

It is heart-warming to see our SLES trainees striving for the best and being rewarded for their hard work.

If you are a school leaver ready to start achieving your goals and obtaining real-world experience, SLES is for you.
