Our Post:

Afford has a range of shared independent living options where you can find a place to call ‘home’. A home where you will find friends with similar interests, where your choices are respected and where you will have easy access to transport links to get around.

Welcoming Marg

We are so excited to welcome Margaret to our Neptune Group Home in Bligh Park. Marg, as she is affectionately known by staff and housemates, now has her own space where she can decorate it as she likes and where she can live independently on her own terms.

Marg’s sister, Belinda, and nephews helped her move in and decorate her bedroom walls with butterflies in memory of her beautiful and courageous mum who died quite recently. Family photos will also be placed around her room, so Marg is always reminded of her connection with her family. Marg’s bedroom is bright and colourful, which truly reflects her outgoing personality.

Afford Support

Belinda says that after their mother died, Marg came to live with her and her two boys which presented some challenges, especially since Marg didn’t have an NDIS plan. It was only by sharing their story on social media, that an Afford staff member reached out to Belinda saying that Afford could help. From then, Belinda and Marg have been supported by Afford to get the supports Marg needs and to find her home at Neptune.

On the day that Marg moved into her new home, her sister commented:

“It was me with the tears when it was time to go. I know she is in good hands and I trust that Mum would be proud of the amazing opportunities ahead for Marg.”

Living Life On Your Terms

Residents at Neptune are enjoying the thrills of independence and living life on their terms. It’s their home and they make the choices about how to furnish the home, what events or activities they want to go to in the local community, and the types of meals they want to eat.

The Afford Lifestyle

Our Group Homes offer life changing supports for work, home and life, and are places where you can feel safe. Our qualified Lifestyle Assistants are there to support residents to get out and about in the community, learn new skills and get involved in the activities they enjoy on their own terms – that’s the Afford Lifestyle.
