Our Post:

At Afford, we understand that carers are our partners in supporting individuals with disability to shape their own lives.

Afford Partners with Carers

We see our relationship with carers as a partnership. A partnership that ensures that our supports suit the needs of their loved one, grow throughout their life and encourage them to live the life they want on their terms under the NDIS.

To support this relationship with carers, Afford staff regularly host Carer Events across our sites. These events are also supported by Carers NSW.

Experience Our Programs

Recently, our Ashfield Day Program invited carers to join and participate in the site’s regular dance program. It was a great opportunity for carers to come together and interact with each other and with Afford staff. This really encourages sense of community and helps our staff develop a strong rapport with parents and carers.

By joining the dance program, our carers had the opportunity to experience the fun and movement just like their loved ones. They had a great time dancing and singing together.

After some amazing dance moves, carers enjoyed a light lunch and discussed with staff all the current activities and future plans for Ashfield Day Program.

Workshop Strategies and Ask Questions

At our Blacktown Day Program, our staff held a Carers Life Coaching and Confidence Building Afternoon Tea.

The workshop was held to focus on the specific supports and needs of the clients and families who attend the site.

Our staff support many clients at this site with a range of needs and work closely with their families to help every individual meet their goals under the NDIS. The workshop discussed ways to equip carers with skills and techniques to support their loved one and to get the most out of life. The workshop also touched on coping skills and strategies to handle setbacks and ways to unlock each individual’s hidden potential.

We Facilitate an Environment to Learn and Socialise

Afternoon tea was set up to boost interaction and provide a social environment in which to learn and throughout the workshop it was fantastic to see that carers and families, as well as our staff, engaged in activities and asked questions.
