This week, we celebrate International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) and this year’s themes are about empowering individuals, promoting inclusiveness and equalilty.
International day of Disability is a United Nations sanctioned day that is celebrated internationally. It aims to increase public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability and celebrate their achievements and contributions.
On 3 December, many of our Day Programs and Afford businesses recognised this special day and celebrated at their sites or by visiting local events.
Clients Showcase Their Talents
Over 20 of our clients from Affords’s Blacktown and Kings Park Day Programs took part in IDPwD activities as part of a day-long celebration organised by Blacktown City Council. Celebrations were held at Blacktown Showground, Richmond Road, Blacktown NSW and featured a BBQ, activities, including a silent disco and our Blacktown Day Program clients also showcased their talents during festivities.
Our Cherrywood Hub was a hive of activity with a high tea held to mark IDPwD with Afford Supporters, clients and their families and carers. Everyone enjoyed delicious treats and there was loads of fun for our clients.
Afford Employment in Blacktown also held an Open Day to provide the general public with an insight into the many employment opportunities available for people with disability. It was a full day of celebration at Afford Employment in Blacktown with activities, morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea and even a job board for keen job seekers.
EMPOWER. INCLUSIVENESS. EQUALITY
In celebration of IDPwD, Afford developed three videos which showcase the ways in which we empower our clients to achieve their goals; provide opportunities for inclusiveness and promote equality for all. Subscribe to our YouTube channel to watch the videos.
