A huge congratulations to Charmain Ward from Ingleburn ADE who has been selected for the World Summer Games in Abu Dhabi 2019 for Bocce.
Last Friday while Charmain was busy shopping for dinner, she glanced at her emails and saw a letter from the Special Olympics confirming her selection. Oh boy was she excited! She couldn’t wait to tell her friends and family about it.
It was an absolute dream come true after playing Bocce as a sport since 2006 since some of her friends recommended it to her. Initially, she was playing for fun with her husband Tony and soon they both started playing competitively. They both love the sport.
Tony and Charmain’s parents were so excited for her and very proud of her achievements.
With her sights set for the 2019 games, now, Charmaine is all set to ramp up her training. Her Head Coach for the World Games, Jess Steward will be working with her to support her training and preparation. In September, she will be heading off to the Training Camp in Tallebudgera Queensland. How exciting!
There’s a significant participant fee for the attendees which Charmain will pay in instalments. The Campbelltown Council is supporting Charmain on her journey with donations as is the Campbelltown Catholic Club. Charmain has also just created a Fundraising Page on the Special Olympics Australia Website under Meet The Team, Charmain.
Now for the fun stuff, training, camp, weight loss and more training.
“I’m really looking forward to the World Games in Abu Dhabi. It’ll be a chance for me to explore a new country, play Bocce and meet new people. That’s what it’s all about” says Charmain.
Congratulations and we look forward to hearing more!
