Our Post:

At Afford, we love incorporating activities that allow clients to let go of their inhibitions and express themselves for the world to see!

Engaging Programs for Self Expression

It’s through engaging programs, such as Circus Drama organised by the team at our Oran Park Day Program, that gives our clients opportunities to take charge of their emotions and share their creativity.

Clients from our Oran Park Day Program visit Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre in Liverpool NSW every week to participate in a Circus Drama program.

The program is facilitated by Rubystar, who has been performing magic and circus through the art of clowning for 15 years around Australia.

Developing Skills and Learning New Tricks

Throughout the sessions, participants learn various circus tricks – everything from juggling, through to more elaborate tricks like spinning a plate on a stick!

Aside from the obvious fun that everyone has during these sessions, the workshops also develop hand-eye coordination, communication and listening skills and social skills.

The workshops are very practical and playful, giving participants the chance to try moves themselves with support from the facilitator and Afford staff.

Everyone always comes away with a big smile on their face after a Circus Drama session. Oran Park client, Jareer, commented after one session – “It’s so much fun!”

Person-Centred Programs

Afford staff develop programs on the direction of clients. Our focus is to ensure that each and every individual has the opportunity to explore their interests and take part in activities and programs that they enjoy.

Our person-centred approach to disability supports guides our program delivery across every one of our Day Programs.
