Training and learning about life in the workforce in the supportive environment of Afford’s SLES (School Leaver Support) program is one thing. Getting out and facing employers is a whole new experience altogether. It takes courage, confidence and the ability to showcase your strengths.
Showcase Your Strengths
Our SLES trainees have all these qualities in bucket loads. At every SLES session, they are willing to challenge themselves and learn new things to give themselves the best start in the workforce. They proved this at a recent industry visit where they came face-to-face with potential employers.
You Are a Valuable Employee
Our Ingleburn SLES trainees challenged themselves to put all that they have learned to the test, by going out to potential employers to tell them exactly why they would be valuable employees.
Try New Things
Nick, Hannah, Clayton and Caleb, along with their trainer, Livenya, travelled to Narellan Shopping Town in search of employment opportunities. For Caleb, this was his first industry experience, but he quickly applied the skills that he has learned through SLES to confidently speak with potential employers.
With remarkable professionalism and confidence, each of the trainees visited stores that offered work that interested them.
Practical Experience Helps You in the Workplace
They all had the chance to meet face to face with employers and managers from a variety of industries. Some trainees chose to visit small business owners. Preferring to work in an environment with fewer employees. Some trainees headed straight to the big business end of town to speak with managers about how they could add value to their large employee base.
Enhance Your Skills
Each trainee received feedback from employers about some of the skills and personal traits that employers are looking for when employing new staff. This gave trainees useful information to help them develop their skills further or use as a strength in future interviews.
This industry visit gave Nick, Hannah, Clayton and Caleb practical experience. They were able to use all the skills that they have learned to apply in real life. They now have greater confidence to approach employers for work opportunities in the future.
