Around the world, April 2nd is recognised as ‘World Autism Awareness Day’ and our Beenleigh Community Centre celebrated with a day trip to Dreamworld on the Gold Coast.

Our clients Angela, Rebekah, Jacqueline, Emma and Rebecca received the VIP treatment at an exciting and interactive day at the theme park!

The day began with early access to the park before it opened, so those with sensory issues could avoid the crowds and feel at ease.

“The clients were very excited to be in such a happy environment celebrating something so close to them,” said Lifestyle Assistant, Sage.

The day was filled with train rides around the park, watching character performances and interacting with the animals. A highlight of the day for many clients was the tiger show, with everyone being in awe of their impressive display.

Sage shared that as a Lifestyle Assistant, one of her most proud moments of the day was seeing the clients take up the opportunity to meet some of the friendlier animals up close.

“One of my clients in particular was very scared of animals, but she ended up patting a kangaroo with lots of encouragement. It was a big win!”

Everyone was also given exclusive access to view the Brickman Wonders of the World exhibition – a display of famous landmarks made from LEGO.

Every day in our Afford Community Centres is different and provides opportunities for clients to develop communication and social skills, whilst having unique community experiences. Our lifestyle assistants are always there to offer support and help you make the most of your Community Centre experiences.
