Saturday the 13th of November is recognised as World Kindness Day, where we are encouraged to remember that every act of kindness should be celebrated. In the true spirit of the day, our partner Heroes with Ability (HWA) invited Afford clients to a sports workshop at the Michael Clark Recreation Centre, with Manly Warringah Sea Eagles NRL player, Sean Keppie.

Afford partners with HWA to offer our clients the best opportunities to get active, be social and have fun in safe and supportive environments.

Matthew from Windsor Community Centre attended the event, where he had the opportunity to work on a range of sports and social skills alongside a special guest.

“It was a great day to have a bit of fun, get together and give our clients as many different experiences as possible. These ambassadors spend time with the clients and get to know them, which is something different and special,” said Heroes with Ability Director and Co-Founder, Marco Quintao.

During the lockdown, Sean Keppie was also one of the NRL players involved in the HWA meet and greet Zoom sessions for Afford clients. After meeting Sean and the other attendees, everyone headed into the gym to utilise the bikes, treadmills, step and rowing machines.

“I know some of our clients have never attended the gym so I love being able to give them that experience. Matty loved using the bike and we had a lot of good laughs,” continued Marco.

Everyone then hit the court for some friendly rounds of basketball, soccer, and of course, rugby league.

“We have a lot of exciting events coming up soon as well, including our Hero Day on the 4th of December to celebrate International Day of People with Disability,” said Marco.

When you join Afford, you will have the ultimate opportunity to participate in new life experiences, develop independent living skills, and engage in meaningful social connections.
