Our Post:

The Afford Lifestyle is all about Afford going above and beyond to support residents to live independently with support under the NDIS. At Afford, we ensure that every resident has the chance to participate in activities, programs and events that they enjoy and that helps them to grow as individuals.

Learning Life Skills in Your Home

Our Butterflies residents have truly become expert gardeners. They sow seeds and seedlings into their garden beds and nurture their plants through to harvest.

Lynette, in particular, loves her garden. Now with the weather cooling, she has worked with her Lifestyle Assistant, Kylie, to find out which are the best vegetables to grow over winter.

Residents are Supported to Develop Skills

First, she and Kylie prepared the garden beds by removing the weeds and tossing the soil. Then, she planted new seeds and has diligently watered them. As each week goes by, Lynette watches eagerly as her seeds and seedlings grow and the vegetable shapes start to form.

Lynette can’t wait for the vegetables to be ready to pick. She said:

“I love my vegetable garden and am looking forward to picking this pumpkin.”

Lynette has already picked some ravishingly red cherry tomatoes and is always on the lookout under the big green leaves to see if her pumpkin is ready for picking.

When more of her vegetables are ready to be harvested, Lynette will then use these in her cooking in her home.

The Afford Lifestyle Supports Residents Live Life on their Terms

Supporting residents to learn more about how food is grown, how to nurture and harvest vegetables and how to use them in delicious, nutritious meals, all supports residents to build their confidence and independence.

The Afford Lifestyle is all about delivering opportunities such as these to help residents grow and achieve all that they want out of life.
