Our Post:

As a school leaver, knowing your employment options is the key to being able to find a job that suits your strengths and that will keep you interested and stimulated throughout your work life.

Afford SLES Program

Our SLES (School Leavers Employment Support) Program trainees had the amazing opportunity to explore their work interests at a site visit to Kingswood TAFE and Ultimo TAFE in NSW.

Learning More About TAFE Courses

Our Penrith and Minchinbury trainees, Angus, Jarrod, Myra, Jacob, Wesley and Jean, along with their trainers Sharon and Tayla, were welcomed at Kingswood TAFE by Sharon Hislop (the TAFE Disability Consultant). It was so helpful having Sharon provide our trainees with a more detailed information about enrolling into TAFE.

Sharon encouraged trainees to aim high and emphasised that there are additional services available when they decide to enrol in a TAFE course, including additional support and tutoring.

The trainees then met Natalie, who provided everyone with a personal tour of the campus. She quickly got to know each of the trainees and their employment goals, which meant that she could take trainees to places around campus that align with their employment aspirations.

Trainees were excited to explore the different rooms and experience firsthand what it would be like to go to TAFE.

They were able to see the different practical training rooms on offer. Trainees were super impressed with the hospital training room; interacting with the medical dummies; experiencing what it would be like to care for a real patient.

Wesley was very pleased and excited with the prospect of further studies in pastry baking.

Mira was taken away with the hair dressing salon; now considering a career in hair dressing.

Exploring Employment Opportunities

Our Marrickville SLES trainees also travelled with their trainer, Jermyn, into Ultimo TAFE to explore their employment opportunities at the InfoFest Open Day.

Trainees were given the opportunity to look at different courses in more detail and ask questions about what the courses involved, as well as online course opportunities.

They took many notes about the courses that pique their interest, such as barista courses, beauty and cosmetic courses, first aid and more!

Fantastic learning experiences for all of our SLES trainees. It opened their eyes to the many possibilities of employment and the path that will lead them to successful placement into the workforce in the future.
