A visit to the Deerubbin Centre in Windsor means more to Alfred than any of us could imagine. It is all because he has contributed to the Reflections of the Hawkesbury 2020 project. Alfred created a small mosaic that is part of a larger artwork showcase that is prominently displayed for all the community to see.

Alfred is supported by Dorine, a lifestyle assistant from Afford’s Blacktown Community Centre. Dorine supports Alfred to attend fortnightly social gatherings with the Be & Co Hawkesbury group. The group presents various social opportunities for Alfred and was where he began creating his mosaic to contribute to the art project.

Recently, the Mayor of Hawkesbury attended the Be & Co Hawkesbury gathering to unveil a series of mosaics. The mosaic was created by lead artist Marian Shapiro and funded by Hawkesbury City Council and KLS Outdoor Training.

“It is so lovely for Alfred to have his artistic creation included as part of the community mosaic. He was so proud to see it as part of the larger artwork on the wall of the Derrubbin Centre. I’m sure this will become one of his favourite places to visit,” said Karolina, Team Leader Blacktown Community Centre.

Afford lifestyle assistants support individuals to engage in the community and enjoy a variety of social interactions. With support, Alfred can enjoy new life experiences and do the things that make him happy.
