Ipswich local and mum, Annalise, has discovered a newfound confidence and determination within herself that will give her the freedom to explore more of her local community.
Annalise experiences feelings of severe anxiety in certain situations and turned to Afford for support.
Afford’s new Ipswich Community Centre service provides support for individuals with disability and their families and carers. The new community centre provides both group and one-to-one supports for locals. Staff help individuals of all abilities achieve their goals for work, home and in life under the NDIS.
Annalise meets with Afford Lifestyle Assistants, Tara and Agnes, four days a week for one-to-one support to work on strategies to overcome her anxiety.
“The idea of driving more than 10 minutes to go to the shops, medical appointments or for a day out, brings on feelings of anxiety and apprehension for Annalise,” Roseanne, Ipswich Community Centre Team Leader explains.
“Each week, we work with Annalise to develop her confidence and overcome her anxiety. We accompany Annalise to go swimming, help her work on her sewing skills and colouring.”
“I was so excited to receive a text message last week from Annalise saying that she had driven half an hour to take her son to his horse therapy session in Ipswich. That’s a huge turning point for her and a great achievement.” added Roseanne.
Afford has also supported Annalise to attend NDIS review meetings. During her last review meeting, she reported feeling supported, heard and achieving a positive outcome.
At Afford, we understand that everyone’s needs and aspirations are different. Our staff work in partnership with individuals and their families to provide opportunity and support to achieve your goals.
