On Saturday 14 October 2023, Australians will vote in a national referendum on whether there should be a Voice to Parliament representing the interests of First Nations people. In the event that Australians vote yes, this will be part of the Australian Constitution.
Irrespective of the outcome of the referendum, Afford commits to being a continued supporter of the interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Australia, to consulting with First Nations people and to working towards Reconciliation.
As an organisation, we will not be saying ‘no’ to hearing, listening to and walking with our First Nations people. Not this weekend. Not in the future.
As an organisation, the Australian Foundation for Disability (Afford) we stand by our support for the constitutional recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People, and we support the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice to Parliament.
