Afford’s SLES (School Leaver Employment Support) shapes business leaders of the future. Trainees get involved in skills development and work experience. They also have the chance to get out into the community to visit industry professionals. SLES trainees are guided with relevant supports to let their abilities soar in the workforce!
What Makes a Leader?
For a better understanding of what makes a leader, SLES trainees, along with their trainer, recently visited businesses in the Penrith community. Specifically, they visited businesses that achieved the finalist level in the Local Business Awards.
Their outing began with trainees researching the businesses in Penrith that were finalists. They then planned out their day by mapping out the locations of the businesses they wanted to visit.
Along with their trainer, trainees set out with confidence and excitement to visit these award-worthy businesses. They had loads of questions to ask, specifically about what it was that gave businesses an extra edge to succeed.
After spending some time with Bo, from Bethany on High, they soon had a greater appreciation for what it means to be a successful business. Bethany on High was nominated for a raft of Local Business Awards, including the award for ‘ most inclusive businesses’.
Raise the Profile of Disability in Australia
As we celebrate International Day of People with Disability (3 December), it is wonderful to offer our trainees the chance to meet with business leaders that promote inclusivity and positively raise the profile of Australians with disability in our community.
During their business visit day, trainees broadened their employment knowledge and learned about different types of industries. They gained an appreciation of the training needed to work in specific businesses, and what a typical workday involves.
At the end of the day, Trainees reflected on what makes a successful business and set goals to achieve future work experiences.
