Afford’s SLES (School Leaver Employment Support) program supports trainees to develop their skills for the workforce. However, it’s also about making new friends and develops social skills.

Develop Your Social Skills for Life

SLES trainers recently launched SLES Social, which is a social program for young Affordians aged 18-24 years who are interested in developing their social skills, confidence and independence through outings and experiences.

For their latest SLES Social activity, trainees attended a social art class at the Prince Gallery Art School in Gladesville and had the chance to unleash their creativity, while also enjoying nibbles, lots of laughs and bubbly.

From the moment the group arrived, the Prince Gallery Art School gave off a creative atmosphere, with artworks, colour, and paint covering nearly every surface.

 Socialising with Fun Activities

The SLES group was shown to their own private studio set up with a scrumptious afternoon tea, and some delicious berry bubbly. Trainees were very excited to pick their own painting to recreate in a fun and creative art class lead by a professional art instructor.

Trainees had a wonderful time learning art techniques such as mixing paints, blending colours on the canvas, and effects to create gorgeous night skies and delicate cherry blossom flowers.

Throughout the class, everyone was very focussed and became one with their inner artist to let their creativity shine through.

But among all the artistry, there was also time to enjoy the experience and chat about their artworks. It was lovely to also have trainees supporting each other with praise for their artworks.

The experience ended with smiles all around. This was a new experience for many of the trainees and one that they will remember for a long time to come.

At the end of the art sessions, everyone had their very own, ready to hang masterpiece.

Extend Your Friendships

SLES Social is about extending friendship circles and developing skills to manage a variety of social situations. It’s about learning life skills that support happiness and confidence in work and life.
