For Peter, life couldn’t be better. He can choose how he wants to spend his day. He has made friends with people in the neighbourhood and is loving his new independent life.
This life transformation has come about all thanks to his first meeting with an Afford Customer Care Manager in Victoria, Kellie.
For five years, Peter has lived in an aged care home where many of the residents were double his age. He first moved into the aged care home after facing medical conditions which meant that his mother could no longer care for him. Soon after he made the transition, his mother sadly passed away, which affected Peter’s wellbeing.
The aged care home supported Peter’s rehabilitation but realised that he didn’t belong in that environment. They reached out to Kellie at Afford in late 2019 to provide the support that Peter needed to begin his NDIS journey. It was a new beginning for Peter, which helped him turn his life around.
Kellie connected Peter with Afford Support Coordinator, Jody. They looked at Peter’s individual needs and helped him navigate the NDIS jargon and terminology so that his plan would reflect his goals in life and his necessary supports.
With help from Kellie and Jody, Peter has just moved into an independent home in Bendigo. He now has the right equipment and lifestyle to achieve his goals.
In his new home, Peter has independence, and he can get involved in activities that make him happy.
With support, Peter is developing his life skills through cooking and individual support to increase his ability and confidence around his home. He is also enjoying social interaction with people his own age.
“Peter had tried four times to be accepted for an NDIS plan before he came to Afford. Now with his new plan and in his Bendigo home, he has the freedom to live life his way,” said Kellie, Customer Care Manager Victoria.
“He has a new lease on life! He calls his home his ‘forever home’. He is much happier and truly loves his new life.”
