We may be expected to spend more time indoors, but thanks to grant funding from Windsor RSL, the clients attending Rouse Hill and Windsor Day Programs can use technology to travel the world, learn more about animals and find new recipes to cook in the kitchen, all from the comfort of their Day Program site.
Explore the World Around You
Technology has so many benefits for expanding our knowledge about the world around us. That’s why, in times such as this when we face extended periods of isolation, we can use technology to stay connected to friends and family and learn new things that interest us to support our mental wellbeing.
The Windsor RSL grant has enabled Afford staff to purchase iPads to use on-site, to enable the clients of Rouse Hill and Windsor Day Programs to enjoy and use.
Learn New Skills
Clients can develop their skills in using technology to find out more about the things they love. They can learn how to open a web browser to research their favourite country or learn to download apps to stay connected with friends, such as Skype. Technology can also help us unwind and meditate, through apps.
Now with the technology at their fingertips, Afford clients have so many opportunities to learn and develop their skills.
Technology is now part of everyday life. Knowing how to access information on the internet, make online appointments, or pay bills online are important skills. Thanks to the Windsor RSL grant funding, clients at Windsor and Rouse Hill can now further develop these skills, which form an important part of independence and confidence building.
“We are seeing more confidence from all clients across our Day Programs,” said Claressa Botha, Team Leader, Windsor Day Program.
Grant Funding Enhances Afford Supports
In addition to the practicalities of using technology, the new iPads will also support clients maintain regular stimulation and inspiration during time on-site.
Grant funding is essential in assisting Afford to deliver supports that are tailored to the needs and interests of each client.
