Transitioning into retirement can be a daunting concept for some, especially if you have established work routines, social networks and activities.
Moving into Retirement
Thanks to funding from the 2019 NSW Seniors Festival Grants Program Category 1 & 2, Afford’s Cherrywood Hub in Llandilo was able to provide clients with valuable insight about moving into retirement.
The team at Cherrywood Hub staged a Seniors Festival Event for mature aged members of the Afford community, aligning with Seniors Week in NSW. The event included a range of information and support sessions for elderly clients who may be nearing retirement age.
Attendees were clients from the Afford community, many of which derive from CALD background. Sessions covered what to expect leading up to retirement and provided expert advice about how to best plan for retirement by engaging in community activities.
Celebrating our Afford Community
This day was a true celebration of the many senior members of our Afford community and presented attendees with the chance to reconnect with old friends and make new friends along the way.
This Seniors Festival Event was a wonderful opportunity for attendees to come together, enjoy each others’ company, learn and plan for the future, as well as enjoy a fun day with music and engaging activities.
Many attendees participated in collage art projects and dancing to the tunes of Mumma Mia, Suspicious Minds, Running Bear, and Rock Around the Clock.
Activities were followed by a delicious lunch, with attendees involved in great discussion about embracing this next phase of their lives.
Funding Helps Us Support Our Clients
Thanks to this vital funding from NSW Seniors Festival Grants Program, our mature aged clients were able to make new friends, take their first steps towards joining a community group and gained a clear direction for their retirement years.
On behalf of the seniors with disabilities and staff of Afford, we thank NSW Family & Community Services for giving us the opportunity to host this valuable event to benefit members of our community.
