Is it a bird? A plane? No, it’s Affordians! Viewing the world from the treetops. The team from Miami Day Program in Queensland headed out to Skywalk at Tambourine Mountain for a day of bushland vistas and fun with friends.
It’s not every day that we get to experience how a bird may feel soaring above the treetops. For Brett, Lachlan, Gavin, Jade, Naomi and Chris supported by their lifestyle assistants, Caron, Jodi and Ibrahim, it certainly was an eye-opening outing that encouraged them to reach new heights.
The trip to Tambourine Mountain was an opportunity to get some fresh air and develop new friendships. Staff at Afford day programs across Queensland are incorporating activities, outings and programs that give clients the chance to try something new or explore and understand their local community.
Along the tree-lined boardwalk, everyone admired the size of the trees that towered around them. As they walked the group stopped to read about the history of the forest and the native flora and fauna of the region.
With cameras in hand, everyone was keen to take photos of the stunning scenery to remember this unique time with friends. At Afford, encouraging social engagement among clients and with the community helps to build individual confidence and independence.
The day ended with lunch – and a few more selfies – just before heading back to Miami.
TIPS: Taking a Good Selfie
• Lighting – The best time to take a photo is around sunrise or sunset, but if you’re out in the middle of the day when the sun is high try to face directly into the sun or with the sun behind you.
• Snap, Snap, SNAP! – The benefit of digital cameras and smartphones is that you can take LOTS of photos. Take selfies in a variety of positions to work out which angle is most flattering.
• Play with Filters – Some apps adjust photos to remove shadows and skin tone, but why not have fun with some cute animal ears or loveable motifs to make your photo even more engaging.
• Smile! – A great selfie is all about capturing your emotion and enjoyment at the time. Smile and show the world how much you cherish the moment.
