Learning and developing workplace skills continues to be a primary focus for Afford’s SLES (School Leaver Employment Support) program. So, trainees took to the internet to do some training online!
Mt Druitt and Penrith SLES trainees took advantage of their time on-site and enhanced their knowledge and skills via an online training course to work towards a certificate in ‘Fundamentals of Health and Safety in the Workplace’.
While exercising social distancing, trainees worked together to complete each of the modules in the online training course.
Develop Your Knowledge with Support
They worked through eight modules that covered topics relating to health and safety at work. Their trainer, Tayla, was there to help them if and when they needed it. Tayla also provided positive encouragement throughout the training and supported trainees to develop their knowledge by reading and comprehending the content in the modules.
Trainees learned about safety procedures, identifying risks and how to reduce risks in the workplace. The course also touched on ways they can keep themselves safe through protective clothing and other safety measures.
Have Fun While You Learn
To keep spirits high and energised, a few funny jokes were told throughout the day. At SLES, fun is always the key to learning.
Before too long, trainees realised that they had gone through the entire eight module course in a single day!
Once they had completed each of the modules, they were required to undertake a final assessment to receive their certificates.
Achieve Your Goals
Everyone was ecstatic to receive a very impressive passing score of 92%! They also received an official certificate to place in each of their portfolios to show potential employers that they understand health and safety in the workplace.
Mt Druitt trainee Myra said: “It was exhausting, but I’m proud of myself!”
Every day at SLES is an opportunity to learn. Trainees have support to develop their work readiness and develop their knowledge of workplace practices.
With support and encouragement, trainees will move into the workplace with confidence in their abilities and resilience to take on any challenge that they may face.
