More Independence for Hawkesbury Residents
Afford is leading the way in group home accommodation in Australia. We are supporting more than 130 residents across the country to have choice, respect and confidence to live independently under the NDIS as part of The Afford Lifestyle.
Independent Living for Hawkesbury Residents
Last week, the Hon. Paul Fletcher, Federal Member for Bradfield, Minister for Families and Social Services officially opened two Bligh Park and one South Windsor Afford Group Homes, surrounded by the residents who now call these houses their home.
We understand that a home is more than bricks and mortar. Home is a feeling. It’s a place where you can make friends and have the freedom and support to live the life you want. That’s The Afford Lifestyle.
Marg’s Journey Into Her Afford Home
Marg is one resident who has made our Bligh Park house her home. After her mother passed away, Marg had moved in with her sister, Belinda and her two sons, but this presented some challenges, especially since Marg didn’t have an NDIS plan.
It was luck that an Afford staff member connected with Belinda after she discussed her situation on social media. From then, plans were made to find an Afford home for Marg.
Marg has now decorated her bedroom walls with butterflies in memory of her beautiful and courageous mum. Her bedroom’s vibrant colour truly reflects Marg’s outgoing personality.
The day Marg moved into her Afford home, Belinda commented, “It was me with the tears when it was time to go. I know she is in good hands and I trust that Mum would be proud of the amazing opportunities ahead for Marg.”
We Support You Live the Life You Want
At Afford, we make every effort to support every resident feel at home. Residents choose the tables, lounges and more and then Afford purchases these at no cost to the residents. Residents have the choice to decorate their room how they please.
There’s always a bowl of fresh fruit on the kitchen bench to encourage healthy snack options and programs offered centre around skill developments, resident interests and, most importantly, fun!
24/7 Support If and When You Need It
Our staff offer 24/7 support and encouragement for residents to explore their community. Homes are located near community hubs and parks, and a wheelchair accessible van is always parked in the driveway, so that residents can be supported to come and go as they please.
