Public transport can be the key to work, home and lifestyle for many of our clients, so getting familiar with signs, cues, sounds and rules are important skills to learn. That’s where our travel training program comes into play.
Accessing The Community
For our clients at Windsor Day Program, catching public transport is their ticket to accessing the shops, the bank and the community.
Skills For Independence
At Windsor Day Program, our clients are encouraged to learn independence and enjoy life’s experiences by discovering new ways to get out and about in the community.
Shaun, Samantha M, Samantha B and Kyla are four young Australians who are determined and always keen to participate in new life experiences.
To get to Westpoint Blacktown, the four friends needed to take the train. Supported by their Lifestyle Assistant, they arrived at the station, reviewed the train timetable for the next available train and then successfully completed their journey.
During their visit to Westpoint Blacktown, they took in all the festive splendour and looked at the Christmas decorations and browsed shops with Christmas bargains.
Building Friendships And Support
Aside from getting out into the community, travel training is about learning to find information to help get around. It’s also about working together to get to your destination and strengthening friendships for support.
Afford provides travel training support through our Day Programs as well as with one-to-one individualised support.
