Our Post:

Australian summers can get very hot. Throughout our Day Programs across Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria, we always ensure sun safety, while still providing engaging and active programs for our clients to enjoy and stay cool.

Water Park Play

Oran Park Day Program have recently introduced a new program that involves visiting the local Curry Reserve Water Park Play Space in Camden, NSW.

The new water park is a great new recreational facility for the community. It features a fully accessible water play space and wheelchair accessible change facilities with an adult hoist, waterproof wheelchair storage and heated water to improve comfort and allow extended access into the spring and autumn seasons.

For Oran Park Day Program clients, visits to the water park are most welcome, especially on warm summer days.

“Clients have been enjoying going out and having fun in the water at the new water park and cooling down in the hot weather. It’s an amazing place to cool off and have fun.” – Antoinette, Team Leader, Oran Park.

Swimming Sessions

Many of our Day Programs also enjoy regular swimming sessions at their local pools. Mt Druitt, Canley Vale, Belmore and Lurnea Day Programs have all incorporated some time in the pool for clients. Swimming and water play also encourage clients to realise the benefits of a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

This time can involve clients playing pool games, learning new swimming skills, or simply just cooling down on a hot day. Whether it is with one-to-one support or as a group, all of our clients enjoy taking part in this sensory activity.

Sensory Stimulation

Swimming and water play not only develop the sense of sound and touch, it also develops communication skills by encouraging participants to talk about how the water makes them feel, what they like, as well as socialising with others.

Social and Fun Programs

By visiting the water park and swimming sessions on a regular basis throughout summer, clients have the opportunity to engage with the wider community and take part in a fun and social experience. The programs encourage inclusivity and builds confidence for clients to engage with the wider community and enjoy new life experiences on their terms.
