Jarrod is a fun, sociable and great guy to be around. He has made some great friends at Afford’s Mt Druitt Day Program and his love of life, music and laughter is infectious. He loves to dance and play football, with the Try Time team.
You may recognise him from several Afford flyers, publications or the Yarra Trams Community Partnerships campaign. He is always willing to get involved and never shies away from trying something new.
As part of World Down Syndrome Day (21 March), we want to celebrate Jarrod and the many other Aussies living with Down Syndrome who embrace every opportunity and let their abilities shine.
At the tender age of 21 years old, Jarrod has a lot of energy and positive spirit. He has attended Afford’s Mt Druitt Day Program for four years and is a wonderful role model for his peers.
Do the things you love
Jarrod loves to get involved in a range of activities. He takes part in the weekly ‘Heroes with Ability’ football skills development program. He is a huge footy fan and isn’t shy about barracking for his favourite team, the Rabbitohs.
He has a bucket list of things he wants to achieve and is very keen to tick off, so he receives one-to-one support from Afford to get out in the community and live life to the full.
He is a great singer, guitarist and bongo drum player, so he always has the room captivated whenever he is in his music zone.
Explore your interests
Jarrod has had a go at working in many different workplaces. He has completed work experience in childcare, a supermarket, packaging and warehousing and more.
After participating in a range of work experience opportunities, Jarrod has recently found a job he loves at Plumpton Hotel. At work, he can mingle with patrons while serving drinks and clearing tables. Going out with friends to the pub is one of his favourite pastimes so working at Plumpton Hotel is work that he is familiar with and can enjoy.
Let your abilities shine
During his time with Afford, Jarrod has truly let his abilities soar! He is confident in managing his money and thrives as a public speaker. He has attended many of Afford’s Annual Gala Balls and loves getting dressed up and partying with his friends.
He loved getting up on stage at Afford’s Got Talent to showcase his many musical talents and also enjoys the friendly competition of the Afford Funathon.
Throughout his NDIS journey, Jarrod has received supports to suit his needs, his interests and his goals.
Jarrod is a very enthusiastic young man that has a passion for life. He strives to be the best version of himself while inspiring everyone around him to live their life to the fullest. You are always guaranteed to be welcomed by a cheerful greeting and smile on Jarrod’s face, which brightens up every day.
Jarrod is our hero and an amazing individual that inspires us all on this coming World Down Syndrome Day to live life to the full.
