Alfred and Jacob from Blacktown Community Centre had a magical day out experiencing the secret garden, an interactive floral exhibition hidden away at The Grounds of Alexandria in Sydney.

Our Afford Community Centres give our clients memorable experiences that they will cherish forever, whilst also expanding their social and life skills.

“Ever since restrictions have eased, we try to make the best of each day with an adventure. Whenever we can go out and do something different, we will, because we have learnt that you never know what can happen in the future,”  said Lifestyle Assistant, Dorine Fryer.

The friends were whisked away to what felt like a magical land from a fairytale. They were able to spend the day exploring, enjoying the sunshine and jamming on the piano.

Alfred is a very musical person and brings his ukulele with him everywhere, so he got very excited when he saw the public piano. He started playing for an audience right away.

“The guys were happy and there was so much excitement to go somewhere new. Giving our clients these special memories makes it all worthwhile. The day out was so beautiful and will stay with them forever,”  said Dorine.

Another highlight of the day was seeing the onsite animal farm. It reminded the clients of visiting the Cherrywood farm, another favourite activity of theirs.

The team drove to the grounds a good 45 minutes’ drive from their site and before heading home, they stopped at some of the famous city sites, including the Harbour Bridge and the Rocks area.

“It was a big day, but it was worth it to see their faces,”  Dorine continued.
