What is supported independent living (SIL)?
Supported independent living, or SIL, is an NDIS support that helps you live more independently, either with other people with disability or on your own.
Independent living looks different for everyone. Tell us what it means to you, and we’ll help create a plan that feels right. For some, it’s getting a lift to the local shopping centre or heading out for an adventure with friends. For others, it’s having support available 24/7 for everyday tasks and peace of mind.
SIL in Melbourne can include help with personal care, cooking, cleaning and daily living tasks. We’ll chat with you about your goals and preferences, then help you find SIL accommodation Melbourne-wide that feels just right.

How to pay for SIL
Funding and eligibility
You can pay for supported independent living in Melbourne through your NDIS plan or with your own funds.
Our team has years of experience with the NDIS and SIL funding, so we can guide you through what’s included and help you work out what’s right for you. You can also talk to your NDIS planner or Local Area Coordinator.
Things you might discuss with your NDIS planner include:
- Your age (SIL is for people aged 18 and over)
- The level of support you need at home
- Your unique needs, interests and goals
- Any assessments or reports you have
- Whether you need modifications or assistive technology
- The type of person-to-person support that’s best for you
- Other home and living options available to you
- What value for money looks like for your plan
We also have options for people who are self-funded and want to access our range of disability services.
Board and lodging
An NDIS SIL package doesn’t cover rent or board costs. These can be paid using your Disability Support Pension, Commonwealth Rent Assistance or other income.
