What is supported independent living, or SIL?
Supported independent living (SIL) is an NDIS support package that helps people with disability live more independently. You can choose to live on your own or share a home with others who also want more freedom and support in daily life.
At Afford, we believe that being independent means something different for everyone. For some people, it means having help with meals or housework. For others, it’s getting out to enjoy local cafes or community activities with friends.
Our SIL homes in South West Sydney provide support for everyday activities such as cooking, cleaning and personal care. You’ll also have a caring team nearby to help you enjoy your daily life, learn new skills and feel part of the community. Our homes are welcoming, comfortable places where you can live happily and confidently.
Tell us what matters most to you and we’ll make it happen together.

How to pay for SIL
Funding and eligibility
You can pay for supported independent living through your NDIS plan or privately.
We have many years of experience providing SIL homes in South West Sydney and beyond. Our friendly team can explain how funding works and what supports are included. You can also discuss SIL with your NDIS planner or Local Area Coordinator.
We’ll walk through the details with you, including:
- Your age (SIL is for people aged 18 and over)
- The type of supports you want in your home
- Your daily routines and personal goals
- Any assessments or modifications required
- What value for money looks like for you
We also have options for people who are self-funded and want to access our range of disability services.
Board and lodging
Your SIL funding doesn’t cover rent or day-to-day living costs. You can use your Disability Support Pension, Commonwealth Rent Assistance or other income to pay for these.
If you’d like help understanding how it all works, our team will make everything clear and easy. You can contact us by calling us on the phone at 1800 233 673 or filling out our online form.
