Have fun, find new hobbies, meet goals.

Say hello to our community activity program, Explore. This fun lineup includes all the activities you know and love (think bowling and swimming). Plus, you get to choose from a bunch of new ones to build your own, individualised timetable.

Our programs run for 18 weeks. You can join one of our regular programs or build your own program. Mix and match the special activities you want to do with some of our regular activities.

We could hit the salon for a chic manicure or catch your favourite band live. We could attend a class and learn a new skill or visit a cool café. It is completely up to you!

Funding Information (including eligibility criteria)

Explore can be linked to the following Support Categories in your plan:

  • Assistance with Daily Life (Core)
  • Increased Social and Community Participation (Capacity Building)
  • Improved Daily Living Skills (Capacity Building)
  • Improved Learning (Capacity Building)

Self-funded and Fee for Service Packages

You do not have to have government-approved funding packages, such as NDIS to access our disability supports and services.

Self-funded is a way for you to pay for services with your own money. This option provides flexibility to access the supports you need if you have a one-off request, or if your government funding package does not cover what you need. You can also self-fund supports while you wait for approval of a funding package.

Fee for Service Packages are also available for people who are self-funded and would like to access our range of disability services.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Explore?

Explore is Afford’s new one-on-one community-based activity program. You can choose the activities you enjoy, learn new skills and make the most of every day or night – the great thing about Explore is that it’s not restricted to the usual Monday to Friday daytime schedule.

Explore runs in 16-week blocks, and we’ll check in with you regularly. You can change your timetable or activities at any time. There’s also a flexible “build your own” option where you can mix your favourite activities with others on offer.

Where do Explore activities take place?

Explore is all about being part of your local community. The locations will depend on your goals and what you want to do. That might be at a shopping centre, gym, sports field, library or art gallery. We will work with you to plan this based on what matters most to you.

We are choosing accessible venues in the community that meet a range of needs. Each person will have a risk assessment at the start of the program to help us plan around things like seizures, needing temperature-controlled spaces, or requiring rest breaks. If you need to rest, you will usually return home with your support worker.

Will I just spend time with my support workers?

That depends on your choices. You might choose to do some activities one-on-one. But we’re also designing Explore to bring small groups of clients together in the community, each with their own support worker. That way, you can have social time too (if you want).

What about help with feeding and personal care?

This will be planned with you. We’re building a list of community venues with accessible adult change facilities. If you need two people to help, that will be part of your support plan.
