The sounds of laughter and the sights of smiling faces filled the room as Afford’s South Queensland Lifestyle Centres came together for bingo. Hosted at the Burleigh Bears Rugby League Football Club, the day was an excellent opportunity for the customers to experience a fun day out while enjoying their local community.

Across all of Afford’s supports and services, staff are always thinking outside the box to create unique opportunities for our customers.

“Customer Care Manager, Tamara Dunn and Lifestyle Assistant, Steven Conroy organised this special day with their contacts at the Burleigh Bears. We had close to 100 customers and staff participate on the day. It was a fantastic experience,” said Senior Lifestyle Assistant, Laurie-Lee Te Paea.

The day was an excellent opportunity to increase social engagement, stimulate cognitive function, hand-eye coordination and improve number skills. As a game of concentration and speed, bingo has previously been a challenge for some customers, but this event was one of a kind.

“Many of our customers have not had the opportunity to go to a local club for bingo due to the callers being too fast but thanks to Burleigh Bears, our customers of all abilities enjoyed playing bingo,” continued Laurie-Lee.

The Burleigh Bears, The Titans NRL team, Steven and Southport Lifestyle Centre donated terrific prizes for the day. For $5.00 entry, each person got two tickets to play five games and three raffle tickets.

“After each person won, the crowd would clap and cheer for one another. Staff commented on how well the customers engaged in the activity. They all paid close attention to their cards and numbers. It was a fantastic day and customers have already been asking when we can do this again,” said Laurie-Lee.

After bingo, everyone enjoyed a fantastic lunch and continued to connect with their friends from across the South.
