Christmas Holiday Notice

As per previous years DES at Afford will be closed from 12.30pm on 24 December 2024 and will re-open at 9am on 2 January 2025.

Mutual Obligation requirements for our clients will be suspended from 16 December 2024 and will resume on 2 January 2025.

What are Disability Employment Services?

Disability Employment Services (DES) is a Department of Social Services program. It is designed to support people with a disability, injury or health condition to secure sustainable employment. Afford’s Disability Employment Services

Are you a person with disability, injury or illness looking for a job? We will work with you to secure sustainable and meaningful employment.

Are you an employer looking for the right person for a job? We can support you to discover great talent!

Afford is a not-for-profit Disability Employment Services provider with a Net Promoter Score of 100%. This means that our participants recommend Afford because we provide a personal experience and have strong connections with the local community to create jobs.

We are a generalist DES provider and provide the service to everyone eligible for Disability Employment Services. We work closely with participants to achieve goals and work with employers to create suitable and long-term employment opportunities.

What can you expect?

Afford’s Employment Consultants take the time to understand who you are, your needs, and your education and employment goals. We are here to support you to find a job that aligns with your skills and interests. A job that provides opportunities for learning and growth.

We provide support every step of the way so you can find a job that is right for you. This includes:

  1. Personalised support: you will be matched with your very own Employment Consultant to guide you through your employment journey.
  2. Skills assessment: we will identify your abilities, skills, and experience.
  3. Resume and interview preparation: we can provide support to write your resume, apply for jobs, prepare for interviews, and teach you workplace etiquette.
  4. Skill development: we offer training programs so you can develop new skills and enhance existing ones so you can stand out in the job market.
  5. Transportation support: we can take you to job interviews or teach you how to catch public transport.
  6. Interview assistance: we will support you during the interview process.
  7. Workplace modifications: we will organise any modifications you may need for interviews or in the workplace.
  8. On-the-job training: we will assist you with on-the-job training so you can learn and grow in your job.
  9. Post-placement support: you will receive ongoing support while you work, for as long as you need it.
  10. Career advancement: we will help you progress in your next career move.
  11. Jobready pack: Afford provides every client with financial support and assistance to prepare and start work. This includes support with purchasing work clothes and shoes, petrol vouchers or public transport fares to go to interviews and work. We can also enrol you in short courses and organise industry compliance and certification including Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) cards, White cards, and traffic control accreditation.

Who is eligible for Disability Employment Services?

Participants

To be eligible for Disability Employment Services, you must meet the following criteria:

  1. Disability or health condition: you have a disability, injury, or health condition.
  2. Age requirements: you are aged between 14 years old, or the Pension qualifying age.
  3. Residency status: you are an Australian citizen, permanent resident, hold a Temporary Protection Visa or a Safe Haven Enterprise Visa.
  4. Study status: you are not studying full-time (unless you are eligible school leaver).
  5. Work hours capacity: you can work at least 8 hours, 15 hours or 23 hours per week and not currently working at or above your work hours capacity.

Afford is a partner of choice for Disability Employment Services. We support employers to provide a diverse and inclusive workplace, improve employee retention, while effectively meeting recruitment goals.

We offer tailored employment solutions to help businesses achieve their workforce needs which may include:

  1. Recruitment support: we support employers to identify and attract qualified and suitable candidates.
  2. Training and resources: we provide information and training on how to support new employees with an accessible and supportive workplace environment.
  3. Workplace modifications: we provide assistance with making necessary adjustments to accommodate your new employee.
  4. Financial incentives: we provide guidance on accessing wage subsidies and other financial supports to offset training and employment costs.
  5. Ongoing support: we maintain regular contact to ensure employers and employees receive continuous assistance for sustainable employment.
