Blacktown’s the place to be

Afford’s Blacktown Community Centre is a hub full of energy where clients explore a range of exciting activities. Cooking is a crowd favourite and thanks to funding from Blacktown City Council, the site has welcomed a new stove, fridge, lounge and dining set. When you join an Afford Community Centre, you have the opportunity to develop your independence and explore new passions in a safe and supportive environment.

“The clients are enjoying their new dining table and chairs as there is more space for everyone to sit together and eat their food. They no longer have to wait for others to finish and they can share stories over their meals,” said Senior Lifestyle Assistant, Jacinta Antwi-Boasiako.

It’s no secret that the clients at Blacktown love their food! Whether they are in the kitchen baking quiches or hotdogs, they enjoy learning new culinary and teamwork skills. Practising their master chef skills on their new stove then sitting around the table with their meals has been a welcome addition to the cooking routine.

“The provision of a new stove by the council has eased the pressure on our old one. It has also ensured we maintain our safety standards,” continued Jacinta.

After sharing a delicious meal, our Blacktown clients love to relax on their new lounge and stream their favourite tv show, read a good book or unwind from a busy day.

“Everyone has expressed their happiness that the grant has given them so many new items for the centre. They love the lounge and fridge. They are very happy,” said Jacinta.

Afford is grateful to Blacktown City Council for the opportunity to upgrade the centre and continue providing our clients with opportunities for meaningful interactions.
