Cherrywood Day Program took a deep dive into the under the sea world with a visit to the Sydney SEA LIFE Aquarium. Marvelling at the shark and stingray tank, getting lost amongst the jellyfish and exploring the new great barrier reef exhibition, it was a magical day out.
Afford Day Programs encourage you to learn more about the world’s beauty while exploring your local community and making memories.
“The joy on the faces of our clients was priceless. That’s what we strive to see with every activity we do,” said Senior Lifestyle Assistant, Ilaisaane Ngalu.
For many clients, this was their first time at Sydney SEA LIFE Aquarium and to say they were excited in the lead up to the day would be an understatement. They were ecstatic. The visit was a fantastic way to work on their goals of accessing the community, practising their communication and travel training.
“Experiences like this give so much to the clients. They are happy, learn new skills and achieve their goals,” continued Ilaisaane.
Liam, Robert and Kathryn were thrilled to explore the immersive exhibitions and make new friends with flippers and fins.
“Their favourite part was the shark and stingray tunnel. The clients liked seeing the animals swim over them and see them up close. They also enjoyed pointing out new animals they hadn’t seen before,” said Ilaisaane.
The playful penguins were also a hit. The clients learnt more about how the habitats of these animals have been impacted by climate change.
Fun fact: January 20th is penguin awareness day which celebrates these flightless birds and serves as a call to action for their conservation in the wild.
The team ended the day with a stroll around Darling Harbour. They took in the beautiful sunny day and admired the giant Christmas decorations that lit up the waterfront.
