As we get closer to the end of 2024, we’re taking a moment to reflect on a year of change and progress at Afford. From empowering clients to introducing bold new initiatives, this year has been all about growth, connection, and building a brighter future for people with disability. Our 2023-24 Annual Report, now available on our website, shares stories about how we’ve grown, improved, and made a difference. These efforts are for our clients, their families, and the community. One of the most exciting updates includes the launch of our new purpose, vision, and values, along with a three-year strategy to guide us into the future.
Purpose at the heart
Our purpose is simple but powerful: “To create an inclusive world where human rights are realised. A world where people of all abilities come together to share in life’s adventure.” This is at the heart of everything we do. It’s our way of making sure everyone feels included and has the chance to participate in life’s big and small moments.
A vision for the future
Our vision is focused on turning this purpose into action each day: “To improve the lives of people with disability by prioritising their choices, promoting their rights, and exploring possibilities together.” It is about making sure people have the support they need to shape their own future and enjoy the adventure along the way.
Living our values
Our values bring our purpose and vision to life. They guide how we work and the choices we make:
- We are kind.
- We are clear.
- We are a team.
- We explore.
These values were developed with input from clients and employees. They reflect who we are and help us stay true to what is important.
Celebrating the milestones
Our Annual Report highlights many big achievements as we work to reposition ourselves as a human rights-centred, client-led service provider. This year we launched a client rights charter, co-designed with our Human Rights Advocate Group; expanded programs that prioritise the voices and experiences of our clients; developed our first Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP); and even marched in the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade. Make sure to explore these and many more stories in the report.
What’s next
We believe organisations dedicated to improving lives have the power to change the world. Our new strategy is designed to help Afford harness this power, improve lives, and build a more inclusive society from the inside out. This strategy isn’t just about improving the lives of the people we serve. It’s also about creating a better experience for our team and a positive impact on the broader world. Achieving our goals will be a marathon, not a sprint, and we are committed to pacing ourselves to deliver the right outcomes at the right time.
