Two Queensland Supported Accommodation & Short Term Accommodation residents, Peter from Waterford and Ben from Crestmead, were recently treated to a night out at Cbus Super Stadium to watch the Titans vs Eels NRL game. Marsden State High School provided complimentary tickets as a thank you for Afford’s gold sponsorship.

At Afford, we are proud to support communities where people of all abilities are given opportunities to shine. At Marsden State High School, inclusivity, passion and pride are some of their leading pillars.

The night out at the football was a great opportunity for Peter and Ben to work on their community access and independence goals. They also got the chance to bond over some fun before Queensland once again experienced COVID-19 restrictions.

“On the night, Ben managed to do his COVID-19 check-in by himself and locate his seat in the stadium. These activities bring self-satisfaction to our clients, especially when we celebrate achieving personal goals,” said Lifestyle Assistant, Takunda Chibanda.

Of course, both Peter and Ben were cheering for the Titans and seeing their team score after the Eels had been leading was a great moment. Unfortunately, their team did not win, but even that could not bring down Peter and Ben’s smiles the whole night.

“They were cheering for their team and kept shouting ‘come on boys, that’s the way’ when they would score,” continued Takunda.

COVID-19 restrictions have made it challenging for sites to come together, so this was timed exceptionally well and provided an excellent opportunity for Peter and Ben to bond.

“These events are important for our clients as they make them feel connected to sports, build friendships and they just have so much fun,” said Takunda.

Afford Supported Accommodation and Short Term Accommodation, allow residents to do what matters to them whilst having support right by their side.
