Beenleigh and Miami Day Programs in sunny Queensland have recently been having a tee-rific time trying their hands at inclusive golf clinics.
Afford Day Programs give clients the opportunities to follow their passions and have fun experiences they may have never known to be possible.
Matthew, James, Ben, Tim, Warrick and Eric from Beenleigh swung right into the action at the Meadowbrook Golf Club. The group was excited to practice their skills on the driving range and when it came time for mini-golf, there was no puttering around.
“The clients told me that they enjoyed every bit of the activities set up for them. But, with all of their smiling faces and laughs, I could not tell you who had the most fun,” said Lifestyle Assistant, Wayne Godinet.
Meadowbrook Golf Club wanted the event to be for people of all abilities so they provided accessible equipment with no hire fees. The day gave our clients an excellent opportunity to work on various skills in an environment catered to them and their needs.
“Sports events are important for our clients as it not only keeps them active but also gets them involved and working as a team to support each other,” continued Wayne.
Stefan and Ian from Miami participated in the Unified Sports and All Abilities Golf Day event held at the Palm Meadows Golf Course. The event brought together people of various abilities from multiple service providers around the local area.
“Stefan loved the day and even though he had played golf before, it was nothing of this calibre. He liked that we even made up a secret handshake which we called shake and bake,” said Lifestyle Assistant Steven Conroy.
Over 18 holes, they shared many laughs and had some friendly competition against new friends.
“I got the feeling everyone who was there was very excited to be a part of such a special event. On the day, golf carts were provided, along with easy walkways and accessible amenities and easy parking options,” continued Steven.
