Jarrod from Mt Druitt Community Centre has had a remarkable journey with Afford and the last five years have been filled with a range of unforgettable experiences.
Afford’s Community Centres will always go above and beyond so you can live your dreams and make the most of every day.
“I would describe Jarrod as bubbly, friendly and empathetic. You know when he is in the room because he has such great energy,” said Team Leader, Keleiola Tino.
When he first joined Mt Druitt Community Centre, Jarrod was quiet and reserved however music and exercise have brought him out of his shell and into the spotlight.
“Our music program with Music Matt has helped Jarrod. He is a whole different person when he performs. If someone else at the community centre is feeling shy, he will play the guitar for them or stand up with them so they don’t feel scared,” continued Keleiola.
If Jarrod hears someone talking about exercise, he is always quick to join in and share his fitness tips.
“Jarrod loves to go to the gym every Thursday and has changed his diet. He loves to demonstrate his push-ups and it’s great to see that he is now able to do that. He has improved so much and it has made him more confident,” said Keleiola.
Another fantastic achievement for Jarrod was in 2019 when Afford was involved in the Yarra Trams Community Partnership Program in Melbourne. He was chosen to represent Afford in a photoshoot that appeared on the buses. It was an unforgettable experience and one that he will treasure for years to come.
Jarrod has also been a part of Afford’s School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES,) where he furthered developed his work-ready skills and explored a range of industries. We can’t wait to see what he will achieve next!
