Afford’s NSW and QLD SLES teams have hosted a range of innovative SLES training sessions over Zoom during the COVID-19 lockdowns. Utilising the power of technology has set the standard for our trainees and showed them that there are no limits to what they can achieve.
Afford SLES equips school-leavers with the skills, knowledge and real-world experience to enter the workforce or further training with confidence.
“We know that these times can be tough and we want to give our trainees a way to stay connected. It’s a great way for them to connect with friends and everyone who has joined us online has loved it,” said National Employment Supports Manager, Symone Marjanovic.
With two online sessions held per day across Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, they are great opportunities for our trainees to keep their routine, engage with friends remotely and receive the best work ready training.
“We are fortunate that we have the technology to do this. We also did some drop-offs of laptops for our trainees who wanted to join but didn’t have the equipment. The parents appreciated that,” continued Symone.
With the NSW lockdown extending well into August and QLD experiencing intermittent lockdowns and restrictions, the SLES teams have gone above and beyond to ensure that the online sessions have been engaging for all.
“Kailum from the Caboolture SLES, had a great time joining the NSW SLES on a virtual tour of the medical industry hosted by an industry nurse. We highly recommend the zoom classes that the innovative NSW SLES team has put together,” said SLES Vocational Trainer, Taniel Eising.
While in lockdown, the NSW SLES team added even more fun to their sessions by celebrating Christmas in July and Pyjama Day.
“We held a digital Escape Room for our annual Christmas in July Team Challenge. Trainees were tasked with saving Christmas by rescuing Santa from an unknown kidnapper! This challenged their creativity, out-of-the-box thinking, communication, and good old-fashioned teamwork skills,” said SLES Coordinator and Vocational Trainer, Tayla Clark.
Afford SLES will always ensure that our trainees receive the best possible training no matter the circumstances or challenges.
