It was all aboard at Penrith Station for a group of our NSW School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES) trainees who were treated to a VIP industry visit at Sydney Trains.

Our SLES program provides school leavers with unique opportunities to obtain work-ready skills and have real-world experiences that will help them land the job of their dreams.

The day was filmed by our videographer Josh, from Jovi Creative, who captured the highlights for a new SLES promotional video, making it even more memorable.

“The day was an extraordinary experience! The trainees were so excited and didn’t shy away from chatting to the friendly station staff and enjoying the experience,” said SLES Coordinator and Vocational Trainer, Tayla Clark.

Penrith trainee, Brody, told Tayla, “It was the best day I’ve ever had at SLES. It was so much fun!”

Upon arriving at Penrith Station, the group put on their conductors’ hat to experience a behind the scenes tour. They were told about the different roles and duties at Sydney Trains, given some essential tips for using public transport and then took a short train ride to Emu Plains in the driver’s compartment.

Industry visits are great for our school leavers to have new experiences that will ease them through the transition from school to work. Additionally, becoming comfortable with public speaking and being in front of a camera are also tangible skills that will assist our SLES trainees in any workplace they enter.

“Penrith SLES trainee, Chloe, was a superstar on the day. She took part in an interview before our industry visit to talk about her experiences with travel training and transport through the SLES program,” explained Tayla.

Our SLES trainees were definitely on the right track in front of the camera and the video will hopefully encourage prospective trainees to go full steam ahead.

“The trainees enjoyed the novelty of being film stars as we went about the day, taking the time to show the camera’s the fun and valuable experiences that we get up to in the SLES program! We hope that these videos will encourage excitement for school leavers who are considering SLES as their next step after school,” said Tayla.
