Without a doubt, a weekly highlight for many of our Community Centres clients is kicking goals in sports sessions with our partner, Heroes with Ability. Whilst Sydney navigates the current COVID-19 lockdown, the Heroes with Ability team have gone above and beyond to provide our clients with online Zoom video sessions.

To show their appreciation, the Lurnea Community Centre created some artwork and signage along with a sports marquee to surprise Directors & Co-founders, Marco Quintao and George Tonna on their next session.

At Afford, we believe in building meaningful partnerships to give our Community Centre clients the best opportunities to achieve their goals.

“Our guys normally go to Heroes on Wednesdays and Fridays, so they have loved the Zoom sessions,” said Team Leader, Teresa Pisani.

Lifestyle Assistant, Tracy Lamont saw how much the team had loved their online sessions and when the group said they wanted to do something nice for Marco and George, she jumped on board to help.

After unveiling their creations, everyone jumped straight into the football drills and the smiles on the clients faces said it all.

“We are enjoying all the sessions. Carers and team leaders should be very proud of their work for helping set up the Zoom sessions with the clients,” said Heroes with Ability Director & Co-Founder, Marco Quintao.

The sessions build essential life skills such as problem-solving, teamwork and hand-eye coordination, all within a safe and supportive environment where all abilities are celebrated.

“They cannot wait to go back to their sessions. All the clients love seeing everyone and giving all the activities a go,” continued Teresa.

Football is a habit the Lurnea team will not be kicking any time soon.
