On Thursday 15 February 2024, the Australian Foundation for Disability (Afford) opened its new Community Hub in Dandenong, Victoria.

Afford was joined by VIP guests:

  • Ms Eden Foster, Member for Mulgrave (representing the Hon. Lizzie Blandthorn, Minister for Disability).
  • Gavin Miller from gOworkskills.

Afford’s community hubs provide access to a range of social and recreational activities – both in centre and in the community – for people with disabilities. Afford provides one-on-one support and group-based programs tailored to meet clients’ needs and goals.

At the event, Ms Eden Foster spoke about the positive impact carers make in our community.

“We are proud to support more than 100 people in Dandenong and the surrounding community,” said Ben Spooner, Service Delivery Director (Victoria & South Australia) at Afford. “Our new Community Hub is located in the heart of Dandenong and it is a safe and welcoming space for people living with a disability to learn new skills and explore the area.

“We work with our clients to develop great skills for work and life, and our highly engaged team support our clients and families to achieve their goals,” he said. “We provide connection and communication with families through CareApp, and education options through government-funded training programs.

“We have immediate vacancies for people to join our community at Dandenong and utilise Afford’s home and living supports, and our nearby social enterprise business,” said Ben Spooner.
