What are Disability Employment Services?

Disability Employment Services (DES) is a Department of Social Services program. It is designed to support people with a disability, injury, or health condition to secure sustainable employment. For more information about DES please visit the JobAccess website.

Afford’s Disability Employment Services

Afford is a not-for-profit Disability Employment Services provider dedicated to helping participants find and maintain meaningful employment. We have a Net Promoter Score of 100% which means that our participants recommend our Disability Employment Services to other people because of their experience in finding suitable employment opportunities and support to grow in the role they are in.

We are a generalist provider who provides services to everyone who is eligible for Disability Employment Services. Afford Employment is a not-for-profit provider driving employment and social inclusion for people with disabilities.

What can you expect?

In our Disability Employment Services, we take the time to understand you, your needs, your education, and employment goals. We are here to support you find a job that aligns with your abilities, skills, and interests. A job that also provides opportunities for learning and growth.

Your journey to sustainable employment will involve the following steps:

  1. Personalised Support: You will be matched with your very own Employment Consultant to guide you throughout your employment journey.
  2. Skills assessment: We will assess your abilities, skills, and experience.
  3. Resume preparation: We will help with your resume, job applications, workplace etiquette, and prepare for interviews.
  4. Skill development: We offer training programs so you can develop new skills or enhance existing ones, improving your competitiveness in the job market.
  5. Transportation support: We will transport you to job interviews, if needed.
  6. Interview assistance: We will support you during your interviews.
  7. Workplace modifications: We will organise any necessary modifications you may need in the workplace.
  8. On-the-job training: We will assist you with training and support with your employer.
  9. Post-placement support: You will receive ongoing support while you work, for as long as you need.
  10. Career advancement: We will help you progress in your next career move.
  11. Jobready pack: Every client who commences with Afford is offered financial support and assistance with preparing for and starting work. This includes support with purchasing work clothing and shoes, short courses, accreditation, certification, industry checks and petrol vouchers or fares to attend work.

Who is eligible for Disability Employment Services?

Participants

To be eligible for Disability Employment Services, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Disability or health condition: you have a disability, injury, or health condition.
  • Age requirements: you are aged between 14 years old, or the age Pension qualifying age.
  • Residency status: you are an Australian citizen, permanent resident, hold a Temporary Protection Visa or a Safe Haven Enterprise Visa.
  • Study status: you are not studying full-time (unless you are an eligible school leaver).
  • Work hours capacity: you are able to work at least 8 hours, 15 hours or 23 hours per week and not currently working at or above your work hours capacity.

As a trusted Disability Employment Services provider, Afford partners with employers to hire and support people with disabilities. We offer tailored employment solutions to help businesses achieve their workforce needs.

 Our Disability Employment Services include:

  • Recruitment support: supporting employers identify and attract qualified and suitable candidates.
  • Training and resources: providing information and training on how to support their new employee with an accessible and supportive workplace environment.
  • Workplace modifications: assistance with making necessary adjustments to accommodate your new employee.
  • Financial incentives: providing guidance on wage subsidies and other financial supports available to offset training and employment costs.
  • Ongoing support: ensuring both employers and employees receive continuous assistance for sustainable employment.
