With the sun shining against a bright blue sky, it was no surprise that Jackson and Tim wanted to take advantage of the beautiful weather and explore their local area. The residents from Trafalgar Supported Accommodation headed to the Royal Botanic Gardens at Cranbourne, where they worked on their community access and fitness goals.

At Afford’s Supported Accommodation homes, you will always be encouraged to do what makes you happy and learn more about the world around you.

“It was such a beautiful day and the men had suggested going to the park. I knew we had visited all the local parks so I recommended the gardens as Tim hadn’t been there. They thought it was a great idea. We packed our hats, sun cream and lunch, then we were on our way,” said Lifestyle Assistant, Geneva Kara.

Jackson’s goals with Afford are to improve his strength, balance and mobility. The gardens were an excellent option for a day out as they have dedicated paths, even ground and stunning views to make walking easy, accessible and fun.

“They have thought about everyone’s abilities in this garden. Whether you are young, old, with children, or have disability, there are lots of seats and shaded areas. The signage is easy to follow, the toilets are accessible and entry is free. It was a great experience for us and I think other carers would also enjoy visiting,” continued Geneva.

After exploring the grounds and taking in the plants and ecosystems, they found a quiet spot where the gentlemen could enjoy their picnic.

“It was a great day of kicking goals! They also loved stopping for lunch, as food is always a highlight of their day. We headed back home and started thinking about the other places we might like to visit,” said Geneva.

A trip to Bundoora Park Farm and a day out swimming is on the upcoming agenda for these friends. We look forward to seeing the men of Trafalgar on their next adventure.
