The Barce and Liberty Supported Accommodation homes came together to celebrate Peter’s 54th birthday and wish him a year of fun and friendship. The old friends caught up over barbecued lunch and birthday cake while discussing Peter’s goals for this next phase of his life. Read more about Peter’s dreams and see how far he has come already.

Afford’s Supported Accommodation homes encourage residents to celebrate their special milestones with friends and family while creating lasting memories.

“It was great for Peter and the other residents to spend quality time together. They haven’t seen each other for quite a while so they had a lot of fun,” said Lifestyle Assistant, Gabriel Chuwang-kwa.

The group that attended the birthday party have known each other for over ten years and they have created many unforgettable memories. A unique bonding experience that Peter shares with his housemates is dance lessons.

“On Tuesdays from 7 pm – 8 pm, the housemates meet in their loungeroom to do their online dance class. He uses his walker or holds hands with staff to keep his balance and have fun. He loves to dance,” continued Gabriel.

As Peter has aged, his mobility has deteriorated. His primary goals are to improve his strength and freely access the house. He has been working closely with his physiotherapist online and diligently follows his prescribed exercises.

“His workouts and getting back into the workforce have helped his endurance and agility. Peter is such a vibrant member of our house! Despite what he might be going through, it is hard to see ever see him feeling down,” said Gabriel.

Peter is also entering 2022, having been named client of the year for Victoria’s North West district. He was over the moon to receive his award at the Christmas party and know that his hard work has not gone unnoticed.
