Beth is the belle of the ball

Beth from Lurnea Community Centre lived her fairy tale dream on a magical day out at The Grounds of Alexandria’s Beauty and the Beast installation. Stepping into a tale as old as time, Beth enjoyed delicious food, fantastic company and had many opportunities to play princess throughout the day.

“It was a great day. Everyone was so kind and the food was yummy. Beth and I loved it,” said Lifestyle Assistant, Tracy Lamont.

With red roses lining the famous laneways, costumes from the Disney live-action movie and giant books and bookshelves, Beth felt transported to another world where the dishes could start singing ‘be our guest’ at any moment.

The day out was an excellent opportunity for Beth to feel connected to the community and practice her communication skills.

“Beth is a social person and talks to everyone she meets. She says hello, compliments them or asks for their dog’s name if their pet is with them. Beth always appreciates when people take the time to talk to her as well,” continued Tracy.

After six years with Afford, it is fantastic to see Beth thriving and having a range of new experiences. Over the past few weeks, she has been into Sydney city, Symbio Wildlife Park and even Wollongong beach.

“She loved going to the Royal Botanical Gardens. We drove in there, had a lovely walk and enjoyed looking at the sites. Her mum likes her to walk to keep fit and strengthen her legs, so I try to choose unique places to make exercise interesting for Beth,” said Tracy.

A highlight of the day was singing and dancing to a busker performing some classic Michael Jackson hits. Beth loved showing off her thriller moves.
