Soaking up the sun at Mount Lofty Botanic Gardens

South Australia’s Club Afford crew headed to the majestic Mount Lofty Botanic Gardens to experience the beauty of nature and explore the world around them. With their walking shoes on and a delicious picnic lunch packed, our clients from the Morphett Vale and Holden Hill Community Centres were ready to explore.

Club Afford is our membership-based social group that promotes social activities, healthy living, fun and exploration of the local community.

“It was a beautiful day and there was a lot to be explored. It was the first time myself and some of the lifestyle assistants had been there,” said Lifestyle Assistant, Isaac Daniels.

At 97 hectares, Mount Lofty Botanic Gardens have trails for all abilities with stunning sculptures, artworks, gardens and gullies scattered throughout. Many of our clients share the goal of keeping active and accessing the community, so this was a fantastic opportunity to combine their goals.

“The clients enjoyed walking up the hill and then coming down into the garden. They were excited about getting out in the sun and fresh air,” continued Isaac.

A highlight of the day was admiring the beautiful sculptures and greenery. A number of the art installations are also accompanied by messages in braille for people with vision impairments.

The clients also loved catching up with their friends from their sister site. Our Morphett Vale and Holden Hill Community Centres enjoy coming together for Club Afford days and it is a great chance to work on socialisation goals.

“When they had lunch together, there were many stories to be shared. Michael, Francesca and the Clare brothers said they had a great time. The clients have asked if we can go back,” said Isaac.

With the trees now due to start embracing shades of gold, amber and brown as Autumn settles in, another trip to the Botanic Gardens might be needed.
