Afford’s Billabong Supported Accommodation is more than just a house; it is a family. The men have formed an incredible bond over the years and their friendship has been their rock. During the lockdown, they have been focusing their energy on keeping their home in tip-top shape, creating special memories and making exciting plans for the future.
Afford’s Supported Accommodation sites encourage you to find friendship and fun whilst developing your independence and life skills.
“Every Afford home is unique and all of the clients are amazing but I love working at Billabong. I enjoy every minute of my job and see it as my second home,” said Lifestyle Assistant Patricia Castro.
Whilst it feels like everyone is talking about the negative impacts of the pandemic, over at Billabong, they have seen the positive every day. They have been using this downtime to do some wholesome work around their home and reflect on their precious memories.
“Every Friday we work in the garden together. Then when we are done, the guys like to relax with a beer and barbecue where they talk about everything. They even share stories from their childhood which is beautiful,” continued Patricia.
During the lockdown, the team has also been doing a lot of outdoor exercises, some backyard bowling, and enjoying treating themselves to some drive-through Starbucks.
“I have a reputation for always making sure the guys eat healthily and drink a lot of water so it has been fun spoiling them with our Sunday trips to Starbucks. It has been giving them something to look forward to and a trip in the van is a nice way to get out of the house,” said Patricia.
They are looking forward to the end of lockdown and seeing their families and friends in person once again. However, in the meantime, they have been so thankful to have had each other throughout this experience.
