Since joining Southport Day Program, Carly has won the hearts of everyone around her and become a vibrant member of the Afford family. She quickly earned the nickname Princess Carly thanks to her love of pearls and charming personality. On a recent trip to Superbee Honeyworld and Palm Beach Parklands, Princess Carly embraced being queen bee for the day and learning more about nature.

Afford Day Programs are hubs of activity where clients are supported to learn new skills, make friends for life and explore the community.

“I’ve been working with Carly for two years and even to this day, when we call her Princess Carly, she gets a massive smile. She was a very different person when I first met her so seeing her come out on trips like this is such an amazing achievement,” said Lifestyle Assistant, Caron Quilliam.

The team visited Superbee Honeyworld, an interactive bee farm, where professional beekeepers lead live bee shows and share all the secrets of these misunderstood insects.

“Carly was full of smiles the whole day. She enjoyed watching the presentation about the importance of bees. Carly also liked watching the live bees in their honeycomb behind the glass,” continued Caron.

One of Carly’s goals is to engage with new people in the community. While shopping for souvenirs, Caron introduced Carly to the retail assistant and Carly said “hi” which is a great achievement to be celebrated.

When everyone’s tummies started to rumble for more than just honey samples, they headed to Palm Beach Parklands to enjoy lunch by the water.

“The whole car ride Carly was laughing her head off and enjoying time with the other clients. Then, everyone had a beautiful lunch at the parklands and they even saw some baby stingrays swimming in the water,” said Caron.

When you join an Afford Day Program, you will feel safe and supported to achieve your dreams and make memories that will last a lifetime.
